This weeks blog "Language as the “Ultimate Weapon” in Nineteen Eighty-Four" is, for the first time, not about Lisp or Clojure, not even about some programming language or something to do with technologies we see at school, it is about a novel written by George Orwell which talks about a totalitarian goverment which tries to create a new language, by modifying English to have fewer words. With this, people could only think bout what the goverment says, which generally are neutral or positive feeling news about the current situation, so the people stay calm and don't rebel against the Party. This kind of manipulation is a psycholical tactic to give the people what the goverment thinks they need, so that they don't question anything they do. In the Novel they go as far as deleting past events from every written source, which could indicate that the party made a mistake somewhere in time, and they even erase people from existance, because when they commit a crime, the party kills them and anyone they think could be a possible threat to them, and when a person is killed, the party modify every document that could possibly indicate that the person ever existed. They create a version of that documents without that person.
If I could relate something to the course, is a phrase that said that the language we use, has an effect on the idea we want to communicate, and that could also apply when we are building a software, because the programming language we use, has an effect on the way we think of the problem and how to solve it.
Finally, the article says that the current society kind of has a bit of manipulation from the media, because we assume that all they say is true and we trust them, also the advertising convince us to think and buy thing they wants us to buy.
